DJI Avata 2 is a ducted, cinewhoop-style FPV drone built for immersive first-person flying with stabilised, ultra-wide video. It suits creators who want dynamic, low-altitude footage indoors or outdoors, with easier controls than a custom FPV build.

What’s new vs the original Avata?

Key upgrades include a larger 1/1.3″ sensor with 10-bit D-Log M, up to 4K/60 and 2.7K/120 recording, bigger 46 GB internal storage, improved O4 transmission/latency, and official EU C1 class marking. It also pairs with the latest DJI Goggles 3 and RC Motion 3 for simpler acro moves.

Does Avata 2 need FPV goggles—and which ones work?

Yes. Avata 2 must be used with DJI FPV goggles. It supports DJI Goggles 3, Goggles N3, Goggles 2 and Goggles Integra (controller compatibility varies—see next FAQ).

Which controllers are compatible?

Avata 2 works with DJI RC Motion 3/2 and DJI FPV Remote Controller 3/2. Manual “M” mode requires the FPV Remote Controller (Mode 2/3). When using RC Motion 3 or FPV RC 3, pair with Goggles 3; when using RC Motion 2 or FPV RC 2, pair with Goggles 2 or Goggles Integra.

Is it good for beginners?

Yes—start in Normal or Sport mode with motion control, then progress to manual (with the FPV RC) as your skills grow. The ducted frame is forgiving for close-quarters practice.

Does Avata 2 have obstacle avoidance?

It doesn’t have traditional forward OA. It uses downward and rear visual positioning to aid hovering and low-level safety. Fly line-of-sight support is still essential for FPV work.

How long is the flight time—and how many batteries should I get?

Max flight time is around 23 minutes per battery in ideal conditions. For real-world shoots, we recommend the Fly More kit (three batteries) so you can rotate packs and keep flying.

How good is the video quality?

Avata 2 records up to 4K/60 (16:9 or 4:3), 2.7K/120, at up to 130 Mb/s, with 10-bit D-Log M for grading. RockSteady 3.0+ and HorizonSteady keep footage smooth, or turn EIS off and stabilise later in Gyroflow.

Does it support Gyroflow?

Yes. Disable EIS in the goggles menu and shoot in Wide view; the gyro data will support offline stabilisation in Gyroflow for a classic FPV look.

How far is the video link—and what’s the latency like?

The O4 link delivers up to 10 km (CE) in ideal, unobstructed conditions, with very low latency (as low as ~24 ms at 1080p/100 fps with Goggles 3). Always fly legally and within VLOS where required.

Can I fly Avata 2 indoors?

Yes—its ducted design and ultra-wide FOV are ideal for cinematic indoor fly-throughs. Use prop guards as supplied, keep speeds modest, and plan paths carefully.

What storage does it have—do I still need a microSD card?

It includes 46 GB internal storage and also supports microSD (use fast U3/V30 or better). For professional work, record to microSD and back up internal media regularly.

Is Avata 2 C1 class—and what does that mean?

Yes, Avata 2 carries an EU C1 class marking. In the EU this gives access to A1 subcategory operations (with conditions). Always check your local rules; UK rules are set by the CAA and may differ from EASA permissions.

What do I need to fly legally in the UK?

Check the CAA’s Drone Code and Open Category guidance. Most camera drones require an Operator ID, and pilots generally need a Flyer ID. Operations near people/urban areas may require additional competence or category changes—see the CAA links for the latest.

Can Avata 2 carry a GoPro or external camera?

No—Avata 2 isn’t designed to carry extra payloads. Its built-in ultra-wide camera and stabilisation are tuned for FPV work without external mounts.

Is Avata 2 good for social/vertical content?

Yes—shoot in 4:3 for more vertical framing options in post, or use in-goggles cropping modes for quick social-first edits.

What accessories do you recommend?
